A cynical man falls irresistibly in love "at first sight" with a beautiful village girl that is half his age. In his fervent quest for answers to the cause and origin of this unusual attraction, he follows the flame of this love on a journey that takes him across seas, over lands, above mountains, and beyond. Eventually, he realizes that in seeking to know and understand this love, he led himself to answer the questions that have bothered him most of his life such as, why do we fall in love at first sight? Are there soul mates? Why are we here on earth? Why are we what we are in life? And what happens after death?

The story begins with “Love at first sight” and takes a middle-aged merchant and a local town beauty across town, over mountains, into heaven and back to earth again. It is indeed a captivating story that has been rightly compared to the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, except that in this case, the quest for love leads to a journey of self discovery through the heart of love, kindled by the flame of love.
