Drumming is an integral aspect of the band’s music. In Fact, the band’s name, Kaleta, in West African language refers to the singing and dancing masquerade, which accompanies celebration. On such occasions, young people wearing traditional face paint and masks, playing drums and cowbells, fill the streets of their neighborhoods with percussive, melodic rhythms, the festive sounds of Kaleta. This explains why we wear make-ups or masks on the stage.
Kaleta is a composer, percussionist, lead vocalist, and guitarist. He has performed on world tours and recorded numerous albums with African musicians, such as King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti, Fela Kuti. Kaleta is a former member of Shina Peters Afro-JuJu band in Nigeria.
